We have had a fantastic start to our Child Safety First campaign, held in association with our official charity partner, Ronald McDonald House Charities, with two successful paediatric first aid workshops held at RMH, based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and at the Mummy Morning Group at intu Merry Hill Shopping Centre.
Throughout the campaign, we are organising a number of free paediatric first aid workshops across the UK, giving our team of experienced trainers the opportunity to share their knowledge with not only those who care for children in a professional capacity, but also parents, grandparents, friends and extended relatives.
The feedback we received from both workshops has been fantastic, and it was great to have the opportunity to speak to those in attendance and hear their thoughts, such as Linda Wright, a grandmother from the Black Country. She said, “This is the first time that I have attended the Mummy Morning at Merry Hill, although my daughter attends quite regularly. When she goes back to work, I will be taking care of my granddaughter part-time so having the opportunity to not only meet other parents of young children but to learn about potentially lifesaving skills for free is invaluable.
“I think all families should learn at least the basics of first aid training, not just parents and grandparents but older brothers and sisters to under-5s too. I’ve done an adult first aid course in the past and I didn’t realise how different first aid for under-5s is. Ultimately, you never know when you will be put in an emergency situation, so more training like this could save so many lives.”
We hope that through these workshops and our free paediatric first aid guide, thousands of additional adults will be equipped, knowledgeable and confident in delivering the right treatment should the situation ever arise, potentially saving several lives every year.
Our next workshop will be held at The Warwickshire Wildlife Trust’s Brandon Marsh Discovery Centre on Monday 25th July from 1pm till 3pm, and all those who regularly care for under-5’s are welcome to come along and learn these vital skills. Keep a look out for more information on workshops held around the country throughout the year.
