Did you know that having a positive attitude while at work can be key to you achieving your goals in 2017? Even if it’s not your New Year’s Resolution, trying to stay positive while in the workplace could help you to succeed with your studies and projects, meet your goals, and help improve your job satisfaction.
Don’t believe us? According to studies by Andrew J. Oswald, Eugenio Proto, and Daniel Sgroi, University of Warwick (2014)* people who are happier tend to be 12% more productive in the workplace.
So how can you use positivity as your secret weapon?
· Just like the training you might be doing at school, college or as part of your apprenticeship, you can train yourself to think more positively about your work and life in general. If you are faced with a challenge you have never encountered before, your immediate reaction may be to try and get out of doing it, but by doing this you could be passing up on a valuable opportunity. Instead of thinking negatively, try to look at the positive impact doing the task will have on you and the people around you.
By offering to take on tasks and trying your best to tackle new challenges, people are more likely to give you more responsibility and recognition for your efforts.
· Coming into work with a smile and sharing your positivity with others around you can have more of an effect on the workplace environment than you might initially think. Simple acts like being nice to your colleagues and supporting them during daily activities can boost the overall mood of the team and as a result productivity may increase.
As with any training, the more you practice, the better you will be at it, you may find you begin to enjoy your work and studying even more because of it. But what is clear, is that by making an effort to be positive in the workplace and being more proactive and productive, you could fast track your way onto the next big step of your apprenticeship journey.
