Functional Skills are the essential skills needed for ENGLISH, MATHS and ICT, vital for young people and adults to participate in life, learning and work. These are transferable skills which employers are looking for.
For Intermediate apprenticeships at level 2, you will be required to have functional skills at level 1, for Advanced apprenticeships at level 3 and Higher apprenticeships, you will need to have functional skills at level 2.
The system helps you develop the skills needed to help you succeed in achieving either functional skills or GCSEs as identified by your Training Officer.
When you begin your training with BB Training Academy, we will carry out a detailed initial assessment with you to determine your current ability, ensuring that we offer the right support to help you achieve your goals.
A diagnostic assessment will be carried out to identify any skills gaps and a tailored individual learning plan is agreed to ensure that you receive the support and teaching needed to help you succeed.
Individual learning resources are generated to develop your underpinning knowledge and fill the skills gaps that have been identified.
Skill Checks are used to confirm your competency in previous skill gaps.
Revision scenarios are used to help you prepare for the assessment.
In conjunction with the BKSB system, you will also be supported by your Training Officer, who will visit you monthly and work with you on a 1:1 basis supported by access to online bite size training sessions which you can join.
